A ring embossed with an image of an eagle with spread wings was unearthed. The symbol was associated with the Strachey Family of England. It belonged to William Strachey, an early Jamestown colonist, educated man, and playwright within William Shakespeare’s literary circles.
He is said to have been among the passengers destined for Jamestown, but his ship, the Sea Venture, was caught in a hurricane and blown off course to Bermuda. It is unclear whether he lost his ring during the one year he spent at Jamestown or had already sold it before the starving time.
